Grace Community Church
Grace Community Church now Renew Church - Mississauga, was GBCanada’s first Canadian church plant and the prototype for our reproducing mother church model, located in the Greater Toronto Area in the province of Ontario. GCC was born from the efforts of lead pastor, Bartley Sawatsky, and GBCanada missionaries, Nathan and Philip Bryant. Nathan and Bartley had met during Bible school in New Brunswick and were “coincidentally” reunited a few years later at Washington Bible College and Capital Seminary where they roomed together along with Nathan’s twin brother, Philip. The trio came together again a few short years later when Nathan received an invitation from the Home Missions Board of the Grace Brethren Fellowship to plant a church in Canada.
On September 13, 1998, they launched Grace Community Church in Mississauga with just 13 adults. Since that time, God has done amazing things and the church has grown to a Sunday attendance of almost 300. What’s more, is that Grace also launched a second daughter church, the Village Community Church in Milton, and a Portuguese ministry, Viva Brasil.
Today, Renew Church - Mississauga fosters an atmosphere of love and acceptance, not legalism and repression that characterizes so many churches today. The goal at Renew is to get to know everyone who walks through the door, allow them to get to know the Renew community, and help them discover the truth about God’s love for them. Bartley continues to serve as Teaching Pastor joined by Andre Brewster, Worship Pastor and Creative Arts Director; Nathan Bryant, Executive Pastor, and Armando Padovan, Pastor of Brazilian Ministries.
